education
SYMPOSiA have a thriving education department with a strong commitment to developing innovative projects and high quality workshops. 2007 was an exciting year for us as were awarded funding from the Scottish Arts Council to run a programme of education training for our players. This included working with the National Youth Choir of Scotland on games and resources for primary pupils. We now intend to apply for further training and have expanded our education team to include specialists in early years and music therapy.
Our main focus for our education programme is composition as we strongly believe that many people do not have the opportunity to find out about creating music and, more importantly, to have a go with live musicians. We have some regular workshops available. We are also interested in creating bespoke projects so if you have an idea you would like to discuss with us you can email us at info@symposiamusic.co.uk
We have recently worked on education projects with Aberdeen City Council, Falkirk Council and the Scottish Music Centre.
“SYMPOSiA is an exciting new instrumental group dedicated to the performance of works composed within the last 10 years. As its contribution to the Sound Festival, it has been spreading the gospel of new music among teachers and pupils in local schools along with a workshop involving university music students. The ensemble, directed by Dr Oliver Searle, performed six contemporary pieces at this concert, the highlight of its festival involvement.”
