about us
SYMPOSiA are a new-music ensemble based in Glasgow, co-founded by Oliver Searle and Fiona Ferguson in November 2001. We are committed to only performing new music and most of the music we have performed has been specifically written for us. This has resulted in over fifty new works being created for us in the last six years all of which have received a premier in Scotland. Our best asset is our players who are some of Scotland’s best young, professional musicians from a variety of different backgrounds (classical, jazz and traditional).
We have a particular interest in collaborative work and are always looking for new ways of working with musicians (of all genres), visual artists, filmmakers and theatre practitioners. SYMPOSiA perform in a variety of situations using both acoustic and mixed media with electronics and have provided music (both live and pre-recorded) for use in theatre.
